For Researchers

DEBRA Ireland has been involved in medical research into EB for the last two decades and has been funding defined research projects since 2001. This research has been helping to increase the understanding of the condition and bringing us continuingly closer to treatments and cures. A full time Research Manager, Dr. Avril Kennan, was appointed in 2007 to drive EB research forward and ensure value for the charity's money.

All DEBRA Ireland research funding is allocated on the basis of a competitive, rigorous peer review process. Whenever possible, research proposals are also assessed by the DEBRA International Medical and Scientific Advisory Panel. A central assessment process helps to ensure that only research projects of the highest quality and relevance are funded. Apply for funding

DEBRA Ireland does not currently have a call for research proposals. However, if you would like to be informed of future funding opportunities or would like to discuss any aspect of EB research, please contact Dr. Avril Kennan in DEBRA Ireland.

DEBRA Ireland Travel Award

The primary aim of this award is to encourage knowledge transfer, discussion and collaboration between researchers in the field of epidermolysis bullosa (EB). We particularly encourage travel for short periods to other EB research centres. Funding for travel to conferences in a relevant field will also be considered. Priority will be given to DEBRA Ireland-funded researchers. Download DEBRA Ireland's Travel Award Application Guidelines.
